Sandhill cranes

Postby owlbait » Sat Apr 16, 2016 4:35 pm

I use a sandhill crane call (not successfully so far) as a gobbler locator. I was getting all our gear together today for my wife's hunt beginning Monday. She is shooting my Benelli Nova fairly well. So, I grab the call to practice it. Shortly, I get a reply from a flock of cranes overhead! I kept calling, they kept answering, and after a few minutes I had 2 big flocks calling and circling high above our house. Super cool, and very noisy. They stayed above for over 5 minutes. I live about 10 miles from a sandhill crane refuge, and they ended up leaving in that direction. :)
