I "pre" taper them before putting them on the bow but still dont think they "feather out" as good as the custom guys.

I use Kwik-it thick and clamp for 4-5 hours for complete curing (it doesnt need that long I doubt),with an acetone rag at the ready to wipe any ooze immediately.

I was always impressed with how well Martin does theirs. could you lay masking take on the glass, sand down to the top of the masking tape, then remove the masking tape, and hand-work it to finish out like that? Or are you more than likely to mess up the glass as a result?

FD thats how im doing it now, except i put a piece of flashing butted right up the the end of the overlay so i dont sand through it then sand it down as far as i can but its just hard to get close to the glass.

I am doing a project now and did the phenolic tip overlays today and took a picture of the overlay "pre"faded before glueing on the bow-the pic shows it (blurry). You already did a great job (saw your buildalong here and on LW).Good job!
