HF 60 1225 limb build..

Postby Robertfishes » Mon Mar 23, 2015 7:03 pm

One of my friends has a 1980s? metal riser Black Widow recurve with a delamed limb. He asked me to build him a new set of limbs if I can, I think I can do it on one of my forms..nothing fancy I'm thinking red elm tapers and parallels with Black glass, 45-55#s at 28".. I just got the bow yesterday and he is in no hurry cause he is having heart surgery in 4 days..I guess I have a few months to get it done. the old limbs are really square and ugly,

Belly mounted limbs. One pin near end of limb, one bolt near end of metal riser. It looks easy to locate holes since riser is drilled thru. The limbs have a threaded insert/outsert that I will need to find or salvage from old set. The bow has about 6 layers of camo paint on it and was used on many a hunt back in the day.. Rob has a few other SA and MA Black Widows but wants to use the metal riser again.

The bolts on my BW HS58 (1983 model) are 5/16-24 thread. You could easily make inserts for the limbs if you have a lathe....or a friends with a lathe.

The HF limbs are longer, take 2 bolts (outermost proly 5/16-24 like mine). Dunno if the inner bolts are different pitch.

I am to receive a target HF 1225 next week. Will check.

Then I will be on the hunt for 45-50# 60" limbs myself. They do pop up from time to time, but price can vary greatly.

Think the pre '89 stuff is NOT FF compatible.
They made some metal bows/extra limbs past that, but you'll need to check serial # with BW to get a build date, see if FF rated.

The last of the metal riser stuff was radius shelf. Neither on mine are.

It'd be pretty sweet if somebody made aftermarket limbs for these things.

Hookeye, the limbs have HF 60 stamped on them..my buddy said he thought the bow is a 1225..he has had it over 20 years. He just had a heart procedure and will not be shooting for a few weeks. I will have time to build his limbs soon..I have a one piece recurve I need to build first for another friend. For the widow build I will be using black glass (or some streaky clear) since he likes to camo paint his bows. I have the HF 60 riser and limbs in my shop, If the widow limb build goes well I could build a few more sets if asked,

IIRC there are 3 types of skeleton riser BW.
The 1225, the 1200 (no support ribs in open areas) and a shorter riser version, maybe called 500?
The 1225 is the more common from what I've seen.

Somewhere I read that there were possibly two limb attach versions- single and double bolt.

After all these years I finally have a HF1225 and an HS58. Now I just gotta save up for a new PCH.

HF60..............that just means it's an HF and was a 60" model.
Dunno what limb lengths were available, seen 'em in 60 and 64.

My target model is supposed to be 64" (ugh). Find out when it gets here.
