Upgraded my sander

Postby wantoknow » Sun Nov 10, 2013 3:33 pm

I picked up this Ridgid sander & made an adjustable fence for it. Works great. I put a dial indicator on it which is pretty accurate for adjusting the thickness. Made the base out of mdf with a layer of aluminum glued to the top. Did a little shimming to get things squared up so it does a pretty good job.
I added additional mounting holes to accommodate larger pieces.

Looks great. Did you eliminate the oscillating feature? With the thickness of the MDF and the stroke of the spindle I wouldn't think you'd get full sanding covering on a 1.75" lam.

No way to eliminate the oscillation. The mdf is 3/4" and the aluminum is 3/16" I'll have to measure the drum height and I'll let you know what the it is. One could use a 3/8" sheet of aluminum which should be solid enough.
