Beginner bow help.

Postby John_Iowa » Thu Nov 03, 2011 2:37 pm

Hi there, I am very new to archery and need some help selecting my first bow. I would like to get a longbow or a recurve.

My questions:

What draw weight should I start with? 30#? 35#?

What is a good way to measure draw length?

Would something like one of these be good for starters?

John I would repost this over on the "Everything Archery" or "Shooters Forum" board if I were you. This board doesn't get as much traffic as those do. A lot of knowledgeable folks visit POA and can point you in the right direction. I only own and hunt with Hill style longbows so those recurves that you posted links to are not my thing. I'm just a stowaway here so I wouldn't even begin to offer advice but you have come to the right website to get some from folks that know trad archery. Be careful though. Some of these pirates have very quick wit and will make you blow coffee all over you monitor. Enjoy!
