Sights...

Alright don't shoot me for this! :P let's talk sights. I really feel more confident when I have a sight on my bow and shoot drastically better. I'm no good shot to begin with so I need the help and if aiming is one less thing for me to worry about I can execute my shot better.

Right now im shooting an old one pin sight with no protective ring around the pin. Similar to a T shaped target sight. It works fine for practice and what not but I'm not comfortable dragging it around the woods for fear of bending the pin. So I prefer a "hunting"style sight, couple pins, protective ring, lots of adjustment.

So I want to find a sight with the most elevation adjustment and can hold up to some abuse without throwing it off. Any suggestions? I don't think the srf sight is for me but I guess I can't knock it till I try it?

I wanted to try the SRF sight but I wasn't sure if I really wanted one or not. So I took a piece of rod I had laying around (3/16" diameter maybe) and heated it in spots to bend it to something like a diamond shape then bent the rod straight from the diamond. I cut out a piece of aluminum that I had and drilled holes for mounting it to the riser, then a hole to mount the sight.
I screwed the aluminum to the riser then the sight into that mount. (I used some arrow inserts for the nuts since I didn't have any. Probably should get some.)
I wasn't sure I liked it at first, but now I think it is pretty good. Helps me look at the target to aim instead of putting the arrow point on the ground in front of the target.
I'm sure it is cheating, but I don't care.

No clue what type of sights are even out there, haven't shot one in decades.....but....toying with the idea of setting up an anti-tradcorrect bow myself. ;)
Interested in what some of you guys think also.
Bearauto11....sights ain't cheating....rolling the window down at night and pointing a rifle across your neighbors field...that's cheating

I use sights often on my hunting bows. I like the older Cobra sights the best. You can't buy them new any more, but they show up on ebay all the time.

Ya know jim, that actually might be the same sight I have but it mustve lost the clear part and it has a brass pin now and not the fiber optic. Maybe I can just pick up parts for it.

And bear, good thinking on making an srf sight. I might attempt making one too...

A couple years ago I was buying several old compounds which most had some kind of sights on them.
I will check my coffee cans of parts, I may have a pin guard like that, your more than welcome to it if I do.

TJ, I've used this one, and the one Jim Casto posted, with decent results.

If you're right handed and want to try it, pm me your address and I'll send it to you. I'm shooting LH now.

Mann, that would be real cool if you can find that piece, let me know and we can work out a deal.

Fuz, thank you, but I really want something that's protected from bumps at least a little bit.

TJ,
i know this is old but you texted me several weeks ago about shooting. in 2011 i mounted sights on my titan. to be honest, i shot phenomenal with it. i took my furthest shot/kill to date with it (compound or stickbow) at 41 yards. we had moved into our home a year and a half prior and i had so many projects going on with the remodel that i didn't make as much time to practice as i would have liked. i wanted to hunt with my recurve but i didn't want that feeling sitting in a stand wondering if i could make a clean kill... not a fun way to hunt. the sight gave me a ton of confidence.

i was using an apex sight that i had pulled off a compound. the bow was 43lbs and i had no issues with elevation out to 50 yards.

if you are still looking for an old school sight that is a little larger, let me know. i have plenty to choose from.
