Aiming… using the window

Some of you may remember last hunting season I used a single crawl. It worked very well but before I setup this season’s deer outfit, I thought I’d play around a couple weeks using the sight window. I started out shooting sticktive, then, became a dedicated “gap at the mark shooter.”

I’ve read/heard of folks using the sight window, but I never tried it—until today. I figured the best way to get started, would be to find out where dead center of window was. It didn’t take a dozen arrows to find out that 16 yards is dead center.

It seems, so far, that the easiest way to shoot shorter distance is to just center widow a little low to the mark, and on longer shots just center the window a little high to the mark. Or…… do most folks move the mark up and down in the window? Interesting.

I’m planning to attend the Eastern Ohio Traditional Rendezvous on August 9. I’ll probably play with this and see how it works for me on their 40-target course.

Not sure it would work on my set up. The window is on the other side....... How has it been working for you?

Jim,
I don't use it to aim, but I do use it some to figure gaps (the distance of two parts might be 15 yards, etc.)

I do this. I sloped my longbow sight window to taper out at 15 yards, my tallest gap. 1/4 down the Window is 25, 1/2 is 35 and point on is 50. It really helps my confidence knowing. And confidence is huge. Bernie Pellerite wrote a book, more for compoinders but relevant. He says that personality types take to different systems and gadgets. Most Olympic guys prefer a ring type aperture but some can make the pin work better.

It is my belief that the pin sight or as I tried a thin marking on my window caused me to want to keep it too exact, fight my natural, inevitable movement. Better to set it and forget it and let it float. For my a 3/8 wide marking on sight window really works with my OCD nature.
Good luck and follow up with us!
