Bows, beers and boars

Postby Stykshooter » Sun Feb 19, 2017 8:11 pm

When I saw the forecast for this past weekend, I decided that I wanted to sit up camp Friday, Saturday and Sunday and do nothing but shoot bows, drink a cold beer or two and eat red meat off of the fire. I loaded up six bows, a full cooler of beer, boar meat, venison and chicken and grabbed my bird dog and headed out. I let most of my local gang know and it worked out really nice as I had some guys come by to eat and hang out by the fire or shoot on Friday, some more on Saturday morning and few different on Saturday afternoon. Sunday I had a big breakfast and had several more to come by and eat and then we shot a field course. The nights were still pretty cold but the wood stove took care of that and the days were very pleasant... in the 60's.

This was a whole rear quarter off of a boar I killed. The Dutch oven was filled with potatoes and onions. I cooked some corn with black beans and Italian bread. I ended up cooking the quarter for seven hours wrapped in foil. I cut it off and covered it with some of my home made sauerkraut. Not half bad.

I took one of my grand daughters out on a course with me.

Looks like a great weekend !
When you take your kid hunting and he says thank you and tells you how much he loves being in the woods with you, your day just isn't going to get any better than that.

It thought the same thing, Jim. I think that's the first picture I've seen of Randy with a smile. :)

But.... it's no wonder. That little girl would make anyone smile. :) Nothing like the grandbabies, huh?
