A roving we'll go .....

Postby BEN MAHER » Tue Nov 08, 2016 3:39 am

So a couple of the lads and I headed out to 'the Mount' for a day of stumping, roving, shooting at the mark, chasing rabbits and just generally playing around with bows and arrows ...
Alongside was my hunting partner Jason, a man mountain toting his 'boo backed Osage longbow and a quiver chock full of everything ....
Lawrie, a fine new acquaintance of mine , a PHD in wildlife ecology, and a fine Longbow shot with his Falco Longbow
And Andrew, whom worked with me many years ago , and whilst we talked of archery he only recently took it up , shootinga a Barebow ILF rig @35# he often put us to shame ... a fine shot who got his first stalk on an animal, taking the hair off a bunny with his first ever shot at game ... no mean feat ... these rabbits are hard wired and flighty ... just ask Rod Jenkins who found out their wariness over several afternoons some years back .

I was out there solo last week and the rabbits were everywhere, we have had unusually high rainfall this winter and our spring in its final stages has the grass growing ... and growing ... the snakes are a plenty too ....

However the rabbits were not out for our enjoyment on this day , few and far between ...

However ... get 4 boys together, plus one well trained Wirehaired pointer, Connie , and we indulged in the most fun a bunch of lads can have ...

Amen.

Looks like an outstanding way to spend a day.
You can tell a lot about a woman's mood just by her hands. If they are holding a gun, she's probably angry.

Looks like a good time to me ! Pretty country too Ben.
When you take your kid hunting and he says thank you and tells you how much he loves being in the woods with you, your day just isn't going to get any better than that.
