Va. Opening day

Postby Stykshooter » Sun Oct 02, 2016 5:32 pm

We had one of our better opening weekends in Broad Run! The rains hit hard Wednesday afternoon and rained constantly till late Friday afternoon. It was looking like our opening day hunt/camp was going to be a washout. We had a lot of areas with a lot of damage from the water and it definitely made the trip into Broad Run more interesting with all of the wash outs in the road. Yohon decided to come down and hang out for a few days and then hunt the opening weekend down here. He and I went over Friday afternoon with my son Zack and Alan and set up camp. It was damp and running water everywhere but at least the rains stopped. We managed to get some hiking/scouting in before dark and then cooked some dinner and enjoyed some fire time. Saturday morning more of the guys came in for the opening day hunt. I think we had a total of 12 there for lunch Saturday.

The rains held off and a couple of us saw deer Saturday morning and my son Jake had an encounter with a huge bear from his stand before he rode over. I cooked a big lunch mid day and then we went back into the woods. Some more deer sightings that afternoon but no shots taken in Broad Run. At deer anyway. That evening the guys were totaling up an impressive list of misses on squirrels. Yohon got to log his first ever miss on a fox squirrel. :o Matt shot a doe in the morning before coming in and when he came up on it an hour later the coyotes had already gutted it for him.

That night we went back to camp for some time around the fire and to finish up left overs from lunch.

Here are a few photos.

You can tell a lot about a woman's mood just by her hands. If they are holding a gun, she's probably angry.

A sad sight indeed. Camp with an empty game pole,

Randy and Yohon both in the same area armed with bows and no deer shot ????? Somebody must have run them off ahead of time 8-)

Yohon did you get Marc's text ?
When you take your kid hunting and he says thank you and tells you how much he loves being in the woods with you, your day just isn't going to get any better than that.

looks like a great time!
Gun Control - A theory espoused by some monumentally stupid people; who claim to believe, against all logic and common sense, that a violent predator who ignores the laws prohibiting them from robbing, raping, kidnapping, torturing and killing their fellow human beings will obey a law telling them that they cannot own a gun.
