Hey Folks,

Does anyone know what year model it is for sure? I also need to buy a replica coin from Kurt. Do I need aluminum or copper?

Looks like a '59. The tips are paper micarta. Glass tips on the '60.

The coin should be copper on a '59, but a 1960 model can be aluminim OR copper, usually aluminum though.

You stole this bow too! lol. Looks like a good refinish project.

I know. I got lucky again. A few days will tell, but it looks as good as the 59--so far. I had my eye on a 48#, 64" Kodiak Special too, but it got away. Oh NO! Am I getting hooked.

Well you've got good taste in which Bears to buy.

The limb taper and tips from '59-61 are in my opinion the nicest Bear ever produced and the '59-60s are the nicest Grizzlies IMO.

Well... it's confirmed to be a "59" Grizzly. This one is 40# and a 60"r. I can't believe it, but it's in better shape than the 59 Kodiak I bought a few weeks ago. The darn thing has the orginial strike plate and feather rest on it. I've ordered a copper coin from Kurt, and have already started sanding her down. I'll post a few pics when I get it done.

Yeah, Roger I've been hooked forever, but this "old" stuff really has a hook on me. Here's what the plans are:

60" 1959 Grizzly, 40#: Play and shoot some 3D

64" 1959 Kodiak, 44#: Play and kill something

? : Going to get a 50# vintage outfit to kill hogs with in February.

Good to see you got another keeper. You should post some pics of your refinish process. I really enjoy refinishing old bows and making them look good again. It's very satisfying.

Did you bid on that leather? I saw that it went for $18(?).

Yeah, I bid $16.00 on it. I've got some leather around so I'll just have to make my own grip, I guess.

The finish was worse on this one than the Kodiak, so I took all of it off this one--save for the area's around the silk-screens. I just sprayed the final coat of urethane on. Hopefully, I'll get a grip on it tomorrow and show you a few picturs.

update:

Well... I got her done, except for putting the grip on it. Turned out real nice. I made a new feather rest for it, and I cleaned up the old strike plate and put it back on.
