53-55? Static Grizz

Postby BK in TEXAS » Mon Dec 07, 2009 2:04 pm

This one would be 53-55 right? Sorry for the dumb questions...I'm just getting a re-kindling of interest in the old bears.

I think you've got the dates right. The standing bear decal was used until '55 and then it was silkscreens after. This one has the standing bear. It's tough to narrow it down further.

Those brush nocks are cool lookin' aint they. I've never owned an old static but I've heard they fling an arrow pretty quick. I doubt a high wrist guy like me would get along with those grips. :?

This one's pretty cool as well. I've gotten interested in the old Bears, too, but I mostly want to build some reproductions and maybe tweak the limb performance just a bit. Jim

check out a 54 kodiak-"compass kodiak"-way ahead of its time--narrow limbs w/a wicked hook--and about the smallest grip i've seen on a recurve--the 55/56 were similar--then they morphed into the mid to higher wrist-longer risers that most think of when you say kodiak

i think they only made the compass model one year['54]--that bow looks pretty clean--i'm not that good at aging them--but that bow looks pretty close-[56 maybe]-i fixed a '54 once and naturally had to test it --and it was as fast as any bear i ever shot--and the only thing i would have tweeked was to try static tips--still might!
