Need help to ID a relic

Postby Ibex » Sun Dec 06, 2009 8:32 am

I recently aquired a very old longbow. Looks like what was called bulletwood (Ipe?)or beefwood (Massaranduba?). . It has a continious concave slot running down the back. It's been burnished and shot many times from the looks of the arrow strike surface wear. The string looks like waxed lined with loop knots intact and extra string that was coiled tightly around the bottom of the bow. I'm hoping someone can help me ID the old thing. It's in great shape. The only real wear is on the bottom tip. Steve

I don't think the wood's ipe; other than that, I haven't a clue. You might ask on the longbow forum; but a lot of these old longbows just can't be identified with any certainty.

Have you tried shooting it, or got any specs? It's a pretty nice looking bow.
