'59 Reproduction Arrived (Pics)

Postby oscar » Sat Nov 14, 2009 9:04 am

The Vintage Works reproduction came in the mail yesterday. Wow, what a good shooting bow, I'm impressed. I'm not sure how authentic it is, but if it is, Old Fred sure had his shit together on this design. The grip is perfection, just like I remember. It's quick even with a fairly thick B-50 string. The only down side to this bow is the finish and that's subjective. It has an orange peel texture to it. My choice would have been a gloss finish. I'll try and get some pics up this weekend.

Can't wait to see it. Is the finish automotive clear coat? We've had some trouble with it lately & orange peel's been the main complaint.

Looking forward to the pics. From the pics I've seen they are really authentic looking. I'm surprised he went with an orange peel finish though. You could sand it off and use some Minwax wipe-on gloss poly with very little effort. I've done several refinishes with it and they turn out really nice. It's the best option if you don't own a sprayer imo.

Is this the bow that was on the LW classifieds?

Kodiak, yes it was. Actually, I hate to admit it, but I have a Holcomb Super Kodiak coming too. I should have that by the middle of next week. I'm very impressed with Vintage Works '59 Kodiak. I really like the way it shoots. I have some pics from Vintage Works on my email but can't figure out how to post them here. He makes very nice looking '64 Kodiak plus a '61 Kodiak (no photos of the '61). Jett, no idea what kind of finish he uses.

I don't know how I did that, but I'll keep at it. This is the '64.

Here's the Holcomb. It's called the Super Kodiak. My understanding is that it's made on the same form as the '59 but with some apparent differences, grip and riser. 62" and 52#'s. Hopefully, this bow will be living in North Dakota shortly.

The '64 reproduction would sure take care of my Kodiak "jones". FYI, the email I received from Vintage Works list his prices at $500 for a 60'' and $550 for a 64" bow. To my knowledge only the '59 comes in 64".
