What do you want next?

Postby KODIAK » Sat Feb 07, 2009 10:13 am

My interest has shifted some from 1960s Bears to 1950s Bears. In particular, I'd like to aquire a 1956 60" Kodiak Special. Gorgeous bow and abit of a rare bird in that length. A couple of months ago there was a mint one on Ebay that I let slip past. Still kicking myself, I think it was 52# @ 26". They measured those bows at 26".

So what have you guys been eyeballing?

I have a K-Special around that date. It's kinda rough & had a helluva twist in the lower limb that took forever to get out. I'll check it out & get some pics & ascertain the year.

I've been wanting a '57 Kodiak, & I'd really like to have that '67 Super Kodiak on ebay right now.

I've never owned or shot any of the Darton bows. Some of them look interesting. And cheap!

Well, it's a 64"er, 45# & I think it's either a '57 or '58. Not what you were looking for. I was taking pics of in the backyard & was hanging it up for a different angle, the camera dangling loosly from my hand when the pup jumped up & snagged. The "good" camera is no more! Well, I'll stick some batteries in the "less good" camera & see what happens next.

I am sure enjoying the Tamerlane I got from Dick. I have been eyeballin the old Widow target bows for quite sometime but I don't want to remortage the house for one. They sell for a helluva price, are they that good? The Wing Presentation and White Wing are some lookers too.

Steve - I saw one of the old white Widow bows go very cheap on ebay about 5 or 6 weeks ago. I was serioulsy thinking about it just because it was going so cheap. Don't really know much about them; but this one looked pretty innovative for the time.

Jett, those 60" Kodiak Specials were strictly special order bows. That's why there isn't too many around. I believe they were only offered in the 60" length for just one year, 1956. I'll look in my recycle bin and see if I can find a pic.

Found it. It was actually 56# @ 26". Great looking bow and it went for a paltry $157. I should have jumped this one. :?

Wow! That was cheap! I missed that one! The 64" one I have is very smooth. I have a '56 Kodiak that is not quite as smooth as the Special, but it really smokes an arrow.

Frank San Marcos LB, Elburg Condor, Fred Anderson Skookum, John Shultz American, Louis Ambruster Zebra, '64 Kodiak...

...the most likely to pop up would be a Browning Firedrake...

...the San Marcos would be at the top of the list.
Fettucini, Linguine, Martini, Bikini...
