lopez is a newbie compared to bowdoc.I am pretty sure he uses some sort of automotive clearcoat stuff (I think I remember him posting that)that makes a hard "shell".IF it was a BEAR bow and I wanted it perfect there would be no comparison-bowdoc.

ha lol thats "grayling green" in the 61' ;) ...ok avacado

subtle differences 61 was african rosewood 62 was brazilian rosewood and 63 was bubinga.

Bubinga is African, I think.

4nolz, you're right, the 61s were African Rosewood. I guess I thought African Rosewood WAS Bubinga but I guess not. Pic from 61 catalog.

I got the catalouge CD too, but it's a pain in the butt to use & I was just t lazy to dig it out. So, is bubinga an african walnut or what? I think it mentions this in one of the ads somewhere.

Looking at that just reminded me of a bow I really need refinished - a '66 Kodiak. It was fairly rough in the pics, but the loose string had been strategically placed over a crack in the riser accents in the photos. That's one I definitely want done.

It's interesting, I googled up "bubinga" and it is often called African Rosewood. I'm not sure if that actually means the wood in the 61s is bubinga or not. :? African rosewood might be kind of a generic name for several species.

Met bowdoc in bear camp last year. There were several bows there that he had refinished. The owners were very pleased with the results.Don knows his stuff.
