A Sad day

Postby BEN MAHER » Sat Jun 04, 2016 12:26 am

I grew up watching him , I use to watch some of his fights as a mental warm up before I fought myself .
He cast a long shadow across my life in many ways .

A polarising man in so many ways .

But everyone since is standing on the shoulders of a giant.

RIP Muhammed Ali.

My Dad hated him for dodging the draft on Religious principles while he routinely committed adultery.I gradually came to admire him after he lost all the jive talking. He was the greatest until Mike Tyson at his peak.

Mike,
Tyson was good ... Against pretty mediocre opposition (or old !) aside from maybe Tony Tucker... He fought everyone they threw at him, but it was the alphabet boys ... Tubbs, Berwick, Ferguson, an old Holmes.... Etc etc .

Ali , love him or hate him , fought Frazier, Foreman, Norton, Williams, Cooper, Foster , Liston...
... All in their prime .......

Tyson got tooled up by Robin Givens ...

Indeed ...
Since Tyson ( and maybe Lewis and Holyfield ) the Heavyweights have become a spectacle of unskilled bohemeths .

Ali was the pinnacle IMHO , albeit subject to being a bit of a knob , and in those early days ... His behaviour and language was often pretty damn flawed .

Living just 50 miles from Louisville he was and is a HUGE figure locally!
IF Im not mistaken the news said they had space for 35000 at the funeral.
At least the portion at the YUM center.
No dought when in his prime, he was the greatest.
He did pretty much take trash talk to a never before heard of level.
